Our mission at the Boys & Girls Club’s Brighter Horizons center is to stop the cycle. By offering teen parents hope and opportunity we are helping them succeed by not only working with them to gain a high school education, but in some cases continue on to higher learning. Brighter Horizons is a licensed Child Care Center located on the New Horizons Alternative High School Campus in Pasco. We provide infant/toddler child care to the teen parents at an on-campus location so that they can attend school and earn their diploma. We also provide exceptional mentoring to all the teen parents and essential hands on work experience from within the child care center. Most of the teen parents, both mothers and fathers work one class period each day in the center working alongside the Boys and Girls Club staff. They also receive credit for the class. We are fortunate to have support from community members who enable us to assist in meeting the needs of our teen parents. This allows students to focus on their education and shows them people care about their future. This in turn motivates them to succeed. We have had great success with a high school graduation. Our first year 10 graduated, second year 10, third year 16, and this past year we had 11 earn their diplomas and proudly graduate. |
