News of funding comes at an especially opportune time for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties as the economic recession continues to impact communities.

December 28, 2011 The Boys & Girls Clubs Ruth Livingston Branch received $3,000 as a Quality Enhancement grant from Schools Out Washington. Among 10 programs throughout the state to be awarded the grant, the Boys & Girls Clubs will use the funds to enhance its afterschool program and continue to provide high-quality programming to local youth ages 5-12.

On Wednesday, November 30th, Livingston Torch Clubbers headed down to Pasco’s Union Gospel Mission. They toured the Women & Children’s area and also helped organize, clean, and stock the Mission’s store, which is located in the basement of the building. Torch Club members were assisted by four very kind volunteers, who befriended the kids and provided them with treats! The Torch Club members were surprised to learn that the volunteers were themselves homeless and their living quarters were upstairs.

This week has been VERY busy and VERY fun! We had our first snow and the Livingston Kids couldn't wait to get outside to play for a little while. Conference days at school equals more time at the Club and we have been keeping Members busy with crafts, cooking projects, and team-building challenges!

This week was busy at Livingston Boys & Girls Club celebrating the Fall weather! Club Members made scarves, french toast, caramel apples, and fall scent stove simmer gift bags!

The first month of program has been quite successful and extremely busy. The kids have been great about learning our routines down and getting to know the staff.

We have had weekly themes of: cooking & baking that included smoothies, artichoke dip, and parfaits. Origami week where we focused on paper projects and contests. And also a creative arts week to allow the kids to express their creativity on paper.
