Club Mentor
Are you looking for a program that is similar to Big Brothers Big Sisters in our area? Come be apart of the positive environment at Boys & Girls Club with our over 3000 members at eleven different sites. Club Mentor is a unique program that matches groups of individuals from local businesses, churches and service clubs with Boys & Girls Club kids to participate in fun activities in a group environment. The program is designed to help foster self-confidence in children and promote a fun, safe environment where mentors and Club members can develop a positive relationship.
How does it work?
This year there are multiple ways you can be a mentor for a variety of age groups.
Local professionals and community member are brought together at the Club to spend a quality hour with Club kids in a fun, pre-planned activity. Each mentor is paired with a Club member and participate in a group activity supervised by a Club staff youth development professional. Mentoring activities generally take place between 4-6pm Monday through Friday during the Club’s after-school programs. Mentoring schedules are prepared in advance and include fun activities such as hands-on art projects, sports, games, violence prevention activities, board games and community service projects.
Here are some other mentor based programs that you can be apart of:
Health Adventures: Fluor, Kennewick General Hosptial and the Boys and Girls Clubs have partnered up to expose Teens from the Sprucewood Teen Center to the variety of medical related jobs at KGH once a month. This is a school year commitment that you are paired with the same teen though out the program. Come and learn more about the medical field right along with a Sprucewood teen.
Job Ready: This program focuses on preparing teens for the workforce. We encourage mentors to become a part of this program so they can help our local teens to be prepared when they are entering the workplace. Topics include interpersonal skills, resume writing, interviewing and what is appropriate to wear to a job interview.
The League: Violence Prevention Course for 4 th and 5 th graders to give them tools in decision making, conflict resolution and how to be positive role models. This group meets once a week to work on what would be positive ways to handle the day to day issues 4 th and 5 th graders go through.
